Interview: Louis Is Art | wilywolf
The One Direction fandom is known for many things; supporting the band's music and the individual members in their solo endeavors, raising money for charity, and being immensely creative. The depth of talent that is showcased is truly something to behold. From video editors and GIF makers, to singers and musicians, writers and artists, we are blessed at every turn. The time and energy that people voluntarily devote as part of this community adds an entirely new dimension to what it means to be part of this fandom and it would be a lesser experience without them.
This is part of our ongoing LOUIS IS ART series highlighting the talented artists in our midst, who willingly share their gifts with us, enhance our experience every day, and make us eternally grateful for their dedication and grace.
"IT IS UNDOUBTEDLY A BEAUTIFUL FACE, BUT I SUSPECT MY ADMIRATION FOR HIM AS AN ARTIST AND AS THE PERSON I BELIEVE HIM TO BE VERY MUCH PLAYS INTO IT, TOO. PURELY AESTHETICALLY, FOR ME, LOUIS IS CLASSICALLY HANDSOME. HE HAS A REAL 50’S HOLLYWOOD-LEADING-MAN LOOK. THERE IS SO MUCH MATERIAL TO WORK WITH TOO."
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN ART?
I have always loved drawing, ever since I was little, for as long as I can remember, drawing has always been a big part me. Now I’m 25 and everything I’ve learned is a result of trying, making mistakes and hard work. I never studied art, I learned everything on my own. I love experimenting when it comes to drawing and I always love to look for new things. I also love portraits, which I always try to draw vividly and sensually. As I look for inspiration within myself and by appreciating other artists’ styles, I feel that I’m on the verge of finding my own style.
HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND ON YOUR ART?
My creativity and inspiration can come to me at home, in the park or in the woods, and I always make sure to have a sketchbook with me. I don’t have a schedule for drawing, sometimes I draw for days and sometimes I go days doing nothing at all. Everything depends on my mood.
WHAT IS YOUR PROCESS WHEN CREATING AN ARTWORK?
When I see something that inspires me I will usually draw a sketch then leave it for a while. Some time later I will come back to it and decide if I’m happy with it, or if I want to change or add to it in some way. Sometimes I will scan a sketch and finish it on the computer, sometimes I will start and finish on the computer. On rare occasions, I will complete my art on one day and this feels amazing. I seldom show my drawings in the process because they look naked to me then. While drawing, I drink liters of tea and coffee :)
WHAT TOOLS DO YOU USE TO CREATE YOUR ARTWORKS?
I have a favorite program – “My Paint”, I love it, it’s so cool. It offers a simple interface and flexible brushes that give me the chance to create my drawings. I also love drawing with pencils and black pens in sketchbooks, easy sketches with soft pencils.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CREATING YOUR ARTWORKS?
This is a difficult question for me for me to answer. I love everything about drawing: the creation of a sketch, when I finish drawing and the moment when I add my signature. I like drawing because you can express emotions and play with them. I love to draw in black and white a lot. It’s a strange but amazing feeling when people like my art. It makes me very happy.
WHAT ATTRACTS YOU TO CREATING ARTWORK OF LOUIS AND WHAT FEATURES OF HIS DO YOU FIND YOURSELF FOCUSING ON THE MOST?
Louis is an amazing and inspirational person. While he can look very different from one picture to the next, but he is always very beautiful. First what remembered in Louis it's the charming look on his face. I think every artist would agree that his face is perfect. It is always fun and interesting to draw him because he radiates goodness. He really is the sun and drawing him always makes me so happy.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LOUIS ARTWORK THAT YOU HAVE CREATED?
I think my favorite Louis artwork would have to be the black and white drawing of him with the pastel colors, like the northern lights flowing out from behind him. I really love it. It's soft and emotive and I like it captured his spirit. (see below)
ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD?
I love drawing so much, but it can be a difficult journey. If you love it, then you should keep going, believe in yourself and do what you love. My family and friends have always been very supportive and I am grateful for that. It’s so wonderful to have people appreciate what I do and I’m always happy to talk to anyone who needs guidance or encouragement with their art. I’ve only been in this fandom a year and I am constantly surprised at how supportive and talented people are. Louis inspires me every day and I hope others can find their inspiration too!
