Interview: Louis Is Art | srslyagus
The One Direction fandom is known for many things; supporting the band's music and the individual members in their solo endeavors, raising money for charity, and being immensely creative. The depth of talent that is showcased is truly something to behold. From video editors and GIF makers, to singers and musicians, writers and artists, we are blessed at every turn. The time and energy that people voluntarily devote as part of this community adds an entirely new dimension to what it means to be part of this fandom and it would be a lesser experience without them.
This is part of our ongoing LOUIS IS ART series highlighting the talented artists in our midst, who willingly share their gifts with us, enhance our experience every day, and make us eternally grateful for their dedication and grace.
"Louis inspires me to get better as an artist and as a human, and to never give up on my dreams. So his wonderful personality plays an important role in why I love to draw him. Also, he has one of the most beautiful faces that i've ever seen, and I think that is what I focus on the most when drawing him."
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN ART?
I started to get interested in art when I was very little, actually, I can't even remember any moment of my life in which I haven't had a pencil on my hand! I studied art for five years in a local academy, but there was something about it that didn't make me happy, I didn't know what, so I dropped out. Two years later, when I started being part of different fandoms, the interest for drawing came back again, as a way of expressing my gratitude and affection to the people that I was fan of. Looking at it now, I believe that I wasn't happy because I didn't feel free enough to be able to draw whatever I wanted with the style that I wanted.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LOUIS ARTWORK THAT YOU HAVE CREATED?
That's another hard question! I think that any drawing that I've done for the #24DoL (24 Days of Louis) is my favorite, to be honest. Maybe the one of Louis with Clifford for Day 10 or the one of the music videos as posters, for Day 21. I love draw to Louis more than anybody in this world and I believe that I was able to express that participating in it.
HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND ON YOUR ART?
The time that I spend of my art depends on what I'm going to do. There have been times when a drawing took me half an hour, but normally, it takes me like 3-5 hours to finish only one! I usually draw at my house, because it's where I have my computer and all my programs, but if the idea comes to me when I'm at school, for example, I only grab a paper, pencil and I start to draw!
WHAT IS YOUR PROCESS WHEN CREATING AN ARTWORK?
The easiest part is to get an idea, at least to me, just because I'm constantly thinking on what I am going to do next! The difficult thing is to make the drawing resemble the main idea, mainly because I am a disaster to draw bodies (a fact). First of all, I do a simple sketch on a paper, then I scan it and I finish it on my PC! If I am more than a day with the same drawing, it's very probable that I'll never finish it. Also, while I'm drawing Louis, I always stream all his songs, it's like a ritual.
WHAT TOOLS DO YOU USE TO CREATE YOUR ARTWORKS?
I use a pencil, rubber and paper for sketches, nothing too fancy. And then, for my digital art, I use a program called Paint Tool SAI, Photoshop and my -very old- Wacom tablet.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CREATING YOUR ARTWORKS?
I never put too much thought into that! I believe that what I enjoy and love most is looking at the final result, feeling proud of myself because I was able to bring my idea to “life” just like I imagined it. Also, I like when people share, support and comment something nice on my artwork. I feel something very warm in my chest and I appreciate it a whole lot.
WHAT ATTRACTS YOU TO CREATING ARTWORK OF LOUIS AND WHAT FEATURES OF HIS DO YOU FIND YOURSELF FOCUSING ON THE MOST?
I think that all the fans of Louis will agree with me on this: he is such an inspiring person - he makes me want to be better everyday, to help others and to keep fighting and be strong despite the difficulties. Louis inspires me to get better as an artist and as a human, and to never give up on my dreams. So his wonderful personality plays an important role in why I love to draw him. Also, he has one of the most beautiful faces that I've ever seen, and I think that is what I focus on the most when drawing him. His fine and sharp features border on the perfect, magic and princely - something that makes me unable to stop drawing and highlighting him. Louis' cheekbones are my biggest debility. Who wouldn't love the sun himself?
ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO ADD?
This is a shout-out for all those artists that feel that their artwork isn't good enough to share, feeling ashamed about it. Please don't feel that way. Everyone of us have a flame inside us that shouldn't be limited or hidden. The “perfect artist” doesn't exist, and nobody was born knowing everything. So I beg you never stop drawing, keep doing it, keep practicing, keep going, because you will go further than you think. In another point, I'm thankful for the turns of destiny that made me a one direction fan and a Louie. Louis is such an incredible human, strong, generous, loyal, funny and talented. Keep rooting for him! I will do that and I have no plans of stopping doing that anytime soon.
