Louis Tomlinson | Royal Variety 2017
Louis Tomlinson absolutely wowed the Royal Variety audience with a commanding performance of his upcoming single Miss You. The slick production showcased Tomlinson's vocal talents and the vibrant set design and lighting engaged everyone in London's Palladium Theatre. Introducing Tomlinson to the stage, host Miranda Hart set the scene for the performance: "Please welcome, the utterly brilliant, Louis Tomlinson!" We couldn't agree more Miranda.
The annual Royal Variety Performance, began in 1912 and raises money for the Royal Variety Charity. Performing at the event for the first time in 2012, One Direction joined more than 200 artists to celebrate the 100th anniversary, before returning again in 2014 and 2015. Tomlinson's performance marked a first solo appearance at the event for the One Direction band mates as he joined the likes of Paloma Faith, The Killers, Seal, and The Script on a memorable evening raising funds for a worthy cause.
Tomlinson spent the day in London before the performance meeting excited fans, taking time to answer their questions and pose for pictures and short videos. One cheeky fan queried when his new single might be released to which he replied: "Coming soon. Coming soon." Fans of Tomlinson have been waiting patiently for the new track and had expected it to drop on Friday November 24 after he hinted to that timeline on the red carpet for Key 103 Live Manchester two weeks ago. Anticipation continues build and fans of the singer are hoping that Friday December 1 could be the new date ahead of his performance at the X Factor UK Final.
This Royal Variety performance, perhaps more than any other since embarking on his solo career, gave a clear indication of what fans cans expect from Tomlinson's much anticipated 2018 tour. Pyrotechnics, integrated lighting design, layered set construction, high energy, and a killer band. Tomlinson nailed the vocals and absolutely owned the stage, with a patriotic red, white and blue themed video display appropriate for the event.
At the end of the show, Tomlinson joined his band and other performers from the evening on stage for the opportunity to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. He seemed thrilled to meet them both as they chatted and shook hands with shared smiles all round.
The event will be broadcast to a estimated television audience of over 150 million viewers during December.
